    Erica Alvarado was born in Tucson, Arizona, and joined BalletMet for the 2022/23 season following her career with Atlanta Ballet, City Ballet of San Diego, Milwaukee Ballet, and Ballet Tucson.

    In 2011, Alvarado was promoted to principal dancer at City Ballet of San Diego, where she performed leading roles in The Firebird, Carmen, Giselle, Don Quixote, and Romeo and Juliet. She also appeared in numerous works by George Balanchine, including Square Dance, Who Cares?, La Source, Donizetti Variations, Allegro Brillante, Serenade, Tarantella, Walpurgisnacht, Concerto Barocco, Apollo, and Tschaikovsky Pas de Deux. Her repertoire there also included soloist roles in The Four Temperaments and Agon, as well as the Principal Woman in Peter Martins’ Hallelujah Junction.

    In 2017, Alvarado joined Atlanta Ballet, performing such iconic roles as Kitri in Don Quixote, the Sugar Plum Fairy and Snow Queen in The Nutcracker, and other leading roles in Helgi Tómasson’s 7 for Eight, Stanton Welch’s Tu Tu and More, Craig Davidson’s Remembrance Hereafter, Liam Scarlett’s Vespertine, and Scarlett’s world premiere of Catch.

    Since arriving at BalletMet, she has continued to perform principal and featured roles in works by Edwaard Liang, Ma Cong, Twyla Tharp, Ulysses Dove, Dana Genshaft, and others.

    Alvarado began her training at Ballet Arts in Tucson under the direction of Mary Beth Cabana and attended numerous prestigious summer intensives. After graduating high school, she joined Ballet Tucson, where she worked closely with American Ballet Theatre veterans Amanda McKerrow and John Gardner, who selected her to perform leading roles in Antony Tudor ballets. Two years later, she joined Milwaukee Ballet II, launching a professional career that has also included teaching students and professionals of all ages.

    TyLeigh Baughman is a dancer originally from Sand Springs, Oklahoma. After training with Tulsa Ballet’s Center for Dance Education, she was the first person to graduate from the school to be hired into Tulsa Ballet’s main company. In 2017 she moved to Columbus, Ohio to join BalletMet as a company artist and has been a dancer there ever since. She has performed in many roles such as Odette in Edwaard Liang’s “Swan Lake” and Clara in BalletMet’s “The Nutcracker.” She has had the opportunity to perform at the Joyce Theater in New York City, and for Moscelyne Larkin’s Memorial Gala. She has also performed in many world premieres and works by world renowned choreographers such as Ma Cong, Edwaard Liang, and Annabelle Lopez Ochoa. She began teaching ballet and pointe classes to young students in 2018, and has since transitioned into teaching to people of all ages and levels.

    Competition Team Director

    Tap Ensemble Director

    Kara Braunreiter has been a member of the Artisan Dance Studio faculty for over a decade. As the Competition Team Director and Director of the Artisan Tap Ensemble, Kara brings passion, precision, and a deep love for dance to every class she teaches. While tap is her specialty, she is also trained in jazz, contemporary, and ballet, and she takes pride in developing well-rounded dancers.

    Kara grew up dancing on competitive teams in Illinois and Wisconsin and was a dedicated member of her high school dance team. She continues to pursue excellence in her craft, completing teacher training programs with renowned tap artists Hillary Marie and Karida Griffith, as well as the Broadway Dance Center’s Teacher Training Program in New York City.

    One of her most cherished moments on stage was performing the title role in Artisan’s production of Cinderella. Off the dance floor, Kara is a scientist focused on developing treatments for rare genetic disorders. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, gardening, and spending time with her three dogs—Cinderella, Jasmine, and Cookie.

    Teresa Catterlin has obtained her Bachelor of Fine Arts in dance performance from The University of Akron. She performed in Luminosity at Cedar Point where she also had the opportunity to dance for the Lebron James Family Foundation with Lebron, J.R. Smith, Jordan Sparks, and Usher. Teresa has performed with Columbus Modern Dance Company, Columbus Contemporary Dance Company, Exhale Dance Tribe, Neos Dance Theatre, the Electric Parade in Florida, and The University of Akron’s Dance Company. Teresa also performed as the young Emily in Front Page Flo. Teresa has choreographed for The University of Akron’s Choreographers’ Workshop and Spring Into Dance with selected works to be presented in The University of Akron’s Dance Company’s performance. She has works that were adjudicated at the American College Dance Association. Teresa has also had the opportunity to teach at locations such as The University of Akron’s Dance Institute, Seven Dance Academy, and BalletMet. She is currently honored to be teaching at Artisan Dance Studio. Continually, she has had the honor to be presented with the dance award at The University of Akron for the enhancement of dance, and the James P. and Maureen C. Kovach Scholarship for the performing arts. Teresa is a co-founder of Artisan Dance Collective that specializes in various dance styles. In addition to dancing and teaching, Teresa graduated from The Ohio State University with her Master of Science. She is a board-certified nurse practitioner. Teresa is passionate about combining the worlds of dance and healthcare in order to create a safe and healthy space for dancers of all ages.

    Megan began her dance journey at three years old in Pittsburgh, PA. She was trained by Tina Kay and has danced competitively with North Pittsburgh Dance Alliance & Intensity Dance Academy. While achieving two National Dance Titles, she attended Point Park's International Summer Intensives each summer, as well as Maria Caruso's Ballet Bodiography Intensives. Megan is trained in all genres of dance, including tap, ballet, contemporary, jazz, lyrical, and modern. She continued dancing and teaching through her years at the University of Dayton, which then led her to Columbus, Ohio. 


    Her favorite part about Columbus is being a member of the Artisan Dance Collective and having the opportunity to teach ballet and contemporary. Outside of dance, she teaches third grade and is completing her Master's Degree in Reading & Literacy at Ohio State University. Megan is extremely passionate about dance and her students, which perfectly aligns with her being part of Artisan Dance Studio!

    Drew Chodash's training began in South Florida at Boca Dance Studio and continued at the University of Florida (UF), where Drew studied advertising and minored in Dance. While at UF, Drew was a member of the university's Hispanic Student Association's dance team, Sabor Latino, and was in the School of Theater and Dance's faculty-led company, MOD. After college, Drew joined the Catey Clark Dance Company based out of Brooklyn, NY and trained at the José Limón Dance Foundation.

    Christina D’Amico began dancing at the age of 5 at Mason Dance Center in Mason, Ohio. She danced there through high school and trained in: tap, jazz, ballet, pointe, and contemporary; Christina was also a member of Mason Dance Center’s competition team and their pre-professional ballet program. She has been dancing at Artisan Dance Studio since 2016 and has been teaching here since 2017. Christina graduated from The Ohio State University in 2012 where she earned her bachelor’s degree in Hospitality Management and minored in dance. During the day she is the Senior Sales Manager at the Hyatt Regency Columbus and in her free time you can find her at dinner and a show with her mom, spoiling her two nephews, reading a book, or taking her favorite Theatre Jazz class at Artisan.

    Ashleigh Dersom began her dance training at the age of three and quickly discovered her passion for both dance and theater. She has studied a wide range of styles including tap, jazz, ballet, lyrical, contemporary, and musical theater. Throughout her training, she has worked under the direction of Barb Coman, as well as with BalletMet faculty, Molly Long, and Jaci Royal. She has also attended the Rockettes Summer Intensive and trained at Broadway Dance Center in New York City.

    In 2023, Ashleigh joined Artisan Dance Collective for its inaugural season before officially becoming a youth instructor. She is now entering her second full season on staff and continues to share her love of dance with the next generation. In addition to teaching, she is a fourth-year Marketing student at The Ohio State University and aspires to one day fulfill her dream of becoming a Radio City Rockette.

    Joanna Hollern fell in love with dance as a child and trained and competed in all genres until graduating high school. One of the highlights of her early dance training was performing at Walt Disney World in 2016. After graduation, she attended Miami University where she performed with Dance Theatre, choreographed multiple pieces, and taught company class. She also attended The American College Dance Association (ACDA) for three years, taking classes in multiple genres and performing in both adjudicated and informal concerts. Notably, her piece 'Age of Envy' was performed at ACDA in 2020. After graduation, Joanna continued to train and perform with a local contemporary dance company before co-founding Artisan Dance Collective in 2022. ADC is a diverse dance company that specializes in contemporary, modern, jazz, and more. Joanna is passionate about teaching and creating a nurturing environment for her students, emphasizing technical skills as well as individuality, creativity, and a love for dance.

    Jessica Kehn is the Founder and Owner of Artisan Dance Studio, where her passion for dance and building a vibrant community shines through. With a background as a competitive dancer and a degree in English and Dance from The Ohio State University.

    Throughout her career, she has continued to grow as both a teacher and leader by training at esteemed institutions such as Broadway Dance Center, Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet, Tap Into the Network, and Rhythm Works. Her dedication to giving back has also been reflected in her volunteer work at the Ohio Reformatory for Women, where she taught incarcerated women the art of tap dancing, providing a creative and transformative outlet.

    What excites Jessica most is fostering a love for dance in students of all ages and building a supportive, inclusive environment at Artisan Dance Studio. She believes in creating a space where everyone can express their creativity, grow with confidence, and form lifelong connections.

    Jessica values time outside the studio as much as in it, finding joy in cooking, exploring nature, and sharing life with her husband, their son Welles, and their beloved pets, Paula and Moe.

    As an Irish dance competitor, Myles placed top three at the Mid-America Regionals, top 10 at the North American Irish Dance Championships, and achieved recall at the World Championships. He has always been passionate about delivering the best performance possible, and this passion ignited into a professional career in dance at the age of 17 while finishing out his senior year of high school. Some of his favorite roles/tours: lead role of The Priest in ‘Romeo & Juliet’ touring China; choreographer and lead role of Aidan in ‘A Celtic Christmas Story’, debut in NYC; dance captain and lead role of The Prince in Rhythm In The Night, touring North America. Myles is thrilled at the opportunity to build a foundation through his teachings and choreography with his various students to come. “I am so thrilled to continue working with such a phenomenal studio and workplace I love being able to call a second home, and build on something extraordinary - the children’s love for dance and the arts.”

    Janelle Maur is a tap dancer and musician from the Akron, Ohio area. After training at the Christine Jones-Meneer School of Dance, she moved to central Ohio in 2008 to attend Otterbein University. While there, Janelle studied Music Business, playing saxophone in Otterbein’s classical and jazz ensembles throughout Ohio and in surrounding states. In 2010, Janelle began working in the arts and culture sector, holding positions at Jazz Arts Group, the Westerville Symphony, and COSI. Today, she spends Monday through Friday working in communications at Bridgeway Academy, a school and therapy center serving children and young adults with autism and developmental disabilities.

    Marissa Morris, a Columbus native, has been dancing since the age of 3, training in all styles. She danced competitively for many years, winning numerous accolades and top overall awards with her team at both regional and national levels, and also earned multiple individual scholarship awards from Ohio Dance Masters. Marissa went on to earn a degree in Finance from Miami University, where she was a member of Dance Theatre, a contemporary-focused, student-led dance company. With Dance Theatre, Marissa performed in company concerts each semester in pieces set by her peers or professional guest choreographers. She attended the American College Dance Association’s East-Central regional conference three times during her college career, performing in both adjudicated and informal concerts, and attending master classes with dance faculty from across the country. Marissa is a founding member of Artisan Dance Collective, a performing dance company housed out of Artisan Dance Studio that showcases multiple genres. Whether she is teaching youth or adult students, or taking class herself, Marissa aims to foster a safe space for continuous growth and learning where we can all share our love and passion for dance.

    After being a competitive studio and dance-team dancer growing up, Emma started her teaching and choreographing journey in 2018 for Beavercreek Dance Teams and fell in love. She continues this love at Artisan. Throughout her years teaching, Emma’s choreography has been showcased at multiple competitions, most notably at UDAs Annual National Dance Team Championship and The Dance Awards Las Vegas. On top of teaching, Emma is one of the founding members and dancers of Artisan Dance Collective, a professional preforming dance company hosted through Artisan. She also holds a master’s degree in public health (MPH) from The Ohio State University. Overall, Emma is grateful to be a part of the welcoming and inclusive Artisan community, both as a teacher and dancer. She is passionate about the nurturing environment that the studio fosters for all of its students, youth and adults alike, and always looks forward to being in the classroom because of this!

    Taylor has lived in many different places but has always kept dance as a priority in her life despite the location. Since the age of 3, she’s danced ballet, tap, jazz, contemporary, modern and more at several studios. After traditional studio and competition dancing, she committed to the high school dance team and served as a captain for two years, leading them to qualify for the state competition and place 9th! Thinking that 15 years in the studio would be the end, she found Dance Connection at Ohio State University her sophomore year in college and continued to dance in the student-led group until graduation in 2020. She continues to pursue her love of dance and teaching through Artisan Dance Studio including one of the founding members of Artisan Dance Collective. Taylor has completed Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet teacher training.

    Morgan grew up in northeast Ohio, dancing at Art in Motion Dance Center for 15 years. She started dancing at age 2 and competing at the age of 6 in a variety of styles including; tap, jazz, hip hop, musical theatre, lyrical, contemporary, and ballet. Post high school graduation Morgan performed as a member of the “Extreme Team” with Extreme Talent Dance Competition in NYC. She also performed recital pieces and taught master classes for University Dance Association at Bowling Green State Univsersity. Morgan graduated from Cedarville University with a bachelor’s degree in Political Science, where she also spent 3 semesters auditioning students and choreographing showcase pieces for AYO Dance Organization. She is also a veteran of the Ohio Air National Guard and considers herself quite an adrenaline junkie.

    Jenna Swartz began her dance training in Mifflinburg, Pennsylvania at Enterline's Dance Center. She attended programs at The Rock School for Dance, The Joffrey Ballet School, Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet, and American Ballet Theatre. She then graduated from Mercyhurst University (Erie, PA) with a BFA in Dance and a BA in Pre-Health Science, fueling her passion for injury-prevention in dancers.

    While in school, Jenna performed as a company member with SoMar Dance Works (Erie, PA). After graduating she joined Seiche Dance Collective (Erie, PA) as a company artist, performing classical, contemporary, and jazz works, as well as debuting original choreography. While living in Erie, Jenna also choreographed for the Erie Dance Film Festival, worked as a remote artist for Dissonance Dance Theatre (Philadelphia, PA), and served as the rehearsal director and choreographer for Erie Contemporary Ballet Theatre, where her choreography was chosen to be presented at the Regional Dance America Festival in 2023.

    Jenna is in her second season with Columbus Dance Theatre, and continues to teach and choreograph in the Columbus area.

    Abby Doerr began her dance training at age two in Cleveland Ohio at Spotlight Dance Center. She danced competitively in all styles such as jazz, ballet, contemporary, hiphop, ballroom, musical theater, tap, modern, and more. Recently, she has graduated from Ohio State University with her Bachelor’s of Fine Arts in Dance.

    Abby is now dancing and choreographing professionally around Columbus and working with The OSU Dance Department as a Rehearsal Assistant. When not teaching at Artisan, Abby can be found taking dance classes, choreographing, or working on her dance reels!

    Alvin Tovstogray is an artist with BalletMet and is a former Principal Dancer with Oklahoma City Ballet. Born in Dnipro, Ukraine, he received his training at the Dnipro State Choreographic School under Viacheslav Volkov. From 2008 to 2010 Mr. Tovstogray continued his training at The San Francisco Ballet School and later joined The Washington Ballet Studio Company. In 2012 Mr. Tovstogray joined Oklahoma City Ballet as a company dancer, was named Soloist in 2014 and promoted to Principal in 2015. He received multiple awards at International Ballet Competitions including Bronze at WBC Orlando, Silver at Istanbul IBC and Gold at Tanzolymp Berlin. His repertoire includes works by George Balanchine, August Bournonville, Anthony Tudor, Jiří Kylián , Nacho Duato, Twyla Tharp, Stanton Welch, Michael Pink, Septime Webre, Robert Mills, Helen Pickett, Ma Cong, , Margo Sappington, Matthew Neenan, Amy Seiwert, Brian Enos, Yui Sato, Jacob Sparso and others. Mr. Tovstogray is an American Ballet Theatre® National Training Curriculum Certified Teacher in Primary through Level 5 of the American Ballet Theatre® National Training Curriculum

    Carley has been dancing at Artisan Dance Studio since it opened in 2012. She started in the recreational program, and later competed on Artisan’s Competition Team earning recognition at regional competitions at local competitions. Currently, you can catch Carley in the evenings as our office manager, and taking classes at the end of the night.

    Mackenzie grew up in central Ohio where she grew up dancing competitively. She has been dancing since the age of 8 in all styles,  some being jazz, ballet, contemporary, lyrical, and musical theater. She has also explored the art of musical theater by performing with Joffrey in New York City.  She continued her dance training over the years at various studios all over the US. Most recently she completed a trainee program with a modern and contemporary company in Dallas, Texas. With the company she had the opportunity to perform many times throughout the year including in a music video. While undergoing training she taught and choreographed ages ranging from 2 to 40 years old in all styles. Dancing has been a passion of hers for as long as she can remember and she loves to share her passion and lead others to experience the same joy dancing brings her.

    Cooper Verona danced for over a decade at Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre and finished his career at BalletMet.  He is currently a full-time faculty member at BalletMet Academy.  His early training was from Connecticut Concert Ballet, Ethan Steifel  at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts and Claudio Munoz at Houston Ballet’s Ben Stevenson Academy.  Throughout his career, he has been featured in works by such choreographers as William Forsythe, George Balanchine, Anthony Tudor, Jiri Kylian, Twyla Tharp, Jerome Robbins, Mark Morris, Justin Peck, James Kudelka, Kyle Abraham, Azure Barton and Dwight Rhoden.  He has also danced the title roles in Dracula and The Great Gatsby, Tybalt in Romeo and Juliet, Hilarion in Giselle, Rothbart in Swan Lake and Cavalier and Drosselmeyer in The Nutcracker.

    He is also a passionate choreographer.  He has created multiple works for Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre's main company including ‘brood’, Walking With, Thick White Sheets and Gravitational Embrace as well as a video commission entitled It Really Is That Easy. During this time he also created multiple works for PBT School’s graduate program and their Company Experience summer program.

    Other commissions include Point Park University, BalletMet Academy, Texture Contemporary Ballet and PeralARTS Festival in Pittsburgh, as well as Chamber Dance in Washington, DC.  He has created multiple works for shows benefiting the Dancers Trust, a fund that was founded to aid dancers with career transition.  He also won an honorarium for his video submission to Carnegie Mellon’s Center for the Arts in Society.

    Taylor began her dance journey at Generations Performing Arts Center in Westerville, Ohio at age 3 training in all styles of dance. She has been dancing ever since, continuing her education at The Ohio State University with a minor in Dance and active participation in two different dance teams throughout college. Taylor is currently working full-time as a Visual Merchandiser at Abercrombie & Fitch and continues to pursue her passion for performing and choreographing with the community of dancers at Artisan.

    Leah Wander is a professional dancer and Pilates instructor based in Columbus, Ohio. After graduating from The Ohio State University with a BFA in dance, Leah teaches jazz and fitness classes in addition to working in grant administration at Nationwide Children’s Hospital.

    Leah recently started her own Pilates business, Wander Movement, where she offers drop-in Pilates classes that focus on strength, breath, and community. Sign up at wandermovement.space.
